It's more common than you might think. I work with many individuals daily who grapple with issues of confidence, self-esteem, and self-efficacy. On the outside, they seem like ordinary people, blending in and going about their lives, but internally they deal with significant stress, anxiety, and doubt.

These individuals face unique challenges. Because they appear 'normal'—a term that's subjective and complex—they don't attract concern or empathy. While they mask their lack of confidence and self-esteem, this helps them blend in, but it also makes it harder for others to recognize their struggles and offer support. Consequently, people around them might hold them to higher expectations than they can meet. When they falter, their failures are often misattributed to a lack of ability rather than a lack of self-confidence, leaving them with feelings of being alone, not understood, and not enough.

Why is it that many interventions aimed at creating confidence don't work or produce very limited results? 

On a basic level, telling someone who wants to lose weight to exercise more and eat less seems logical, but does it actually work? Or perhaps you've convinced yourself that you've forgiven someone, yet you wince and still feel uneasy when you see them. Similarly, in a work situation, you know you need to make a phone call, but you end up finding something else to do instead.

 

Is it possible that these methods fail because they don't tackle the core issue? Could the real problem lie within your mindset?

 

What exactly is mindset? You're using your analytical conscious mind—the inner voice—to try and fix things, while the root cause lies in your unconscious mind. What is an unconscious process? Walking is one. Once you've learned to walk, you move your legs automatically without thinking. Similarly, you respond to situations based on deep-seated beliefs.

 

When an event occurs, you form beliefs that shape your worldview. By engaging your imagination—your unconscious mind—you can reprogram your thoughts, change your beliefs, and create more positive outcomes.

 

Techniques like Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) can help. However, if emotions are attached to a belief, they can be difficult to alter because you must confront the emotion to change it. Your mind tries to protect you from unpleasant experiences by dissociating from them, so you only perceive them with your conscious mind. The term "miracle" derives from "mirror"—a call to reflect. The good news is that when you revisit a situation with a new perspective, it often seems trivial compared to the burden you've been carrying, and the emotion fades.

 

You can trick your mind into better outcomes without confronting the emotion, but this leaves you vulnerable to recurrence or symptom substitution, which is not normally consciously recognized. Many have come to me after seeing a hypnotist or NLP practitioner, experiencing either the symptom returning or symptom substitution.

 

Let's consider a significant symptom for clarity. A woman consulted me after seeing a hypnotist for panic attacks. The panic attacks ceased, but she developed skin blotches. When asked how the blotches made her feel, she said "untouchable." This was symptom substitution. She had been sexually abused as a child and didn't want to be touched. After a few sessions, she identified and resolved the root cause of her issues.

 

This example illustrates how the mind and body function as one system. I've helped many people heal physical problems similarly. Just listen to the word "dis-ease."

 

Often, it's just bits and pieces accumulated over the years.

Belief-Enhanced Coaching

"Aligning Your Path to Confidence"

Belief-Enhanced Coaching involves an insightful dialogue between coach and coachee, focusing on empowering individuals to find their own solutions. This approach understands that people are more likely to engage with solutions they develop themselves, rather than those imposed upon them.

The unique power of Belief-Enhanced Coaching lies in my ability to map and harmonize your underlying belief systems, identifying primary and secondary beliefs. This amplifies the impact of the coaching experience.

Example: Client - Julie

  • Background: Consulted for lack of confidence and low self-esteem.
  • Belief Mapping: Julie's primary belief about herself was that she was fat, and her primary belief about being fat was unacceptable. Essentially, she thought she was unacceptable.
  • Revelation: Julie had been on diets and lost weight but felt worse, which confirmed her belief.
  • Root Cause: The root cause was traced back to when she got pregnant, and her boyfriend told her it was unacceptable.
  • Resolution: After facing the emotion using a tapping technique (see below), she realized the belief was her boyfriend's, not hers. She reported losing weight and feeling good a few months later.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP encompasses various techniques, including:

  • Swish Pattern: Changing behavior or thought patterns to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Visual/Kinesthetic Dissociation (VKD): Removing negative thoughts and feelings from past events.
  • Visualization: Programming your subconscious for confidence by creating vivid mental images of desired outcomes.
  • Timelining: Exploring your timeline to identify the origin of challenges and progress towards resolution.
  • Pattern Interrupts: Quickly altering thought patterns to shift perception, behavior, and emotional responses.
  • Self-Talk: Changing the internal voice to change outcomes.

Example: Client - George

  • Background: Lack of confidence in golf.
  • Technique Used: Timelining and visualization.
  • Issue: George played well against poor players but struggled against those with good reputations. He had unconscious thoughts affecting his performance.
  • Resolution: Identified the self-talk of "this guy’s better than me," below conscious awareness, which caused anxiety. By rehearsing a new mindset and visualization, George reported improved performance and relaxation.

EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique)

EFT helps change negative thoughts into positive ones by stimulating energy meridians through tapping on specific acupressure points, allowing relaxation and reframing of negative thoughts.

Example: Client - Rose

  • Background: Confident selling; felt uncomfortable picking up the phone.
  • Technique Used: Neuro-Linguistic Programming Timelining/Visualization and EFT Tapping.
  • Issue: A childhood incident where her mother reprimanded her for talking to a stranger.
  • Resolution: Realized the belief was from childhood and not applicable to adulthood. Used tapping and visualization to achieve a positive outcome.

Conscious Hypnosis

Conscious Hypnosis keeps you aware of everything happening during the session. There are two distinctive treatments:

  1. Suggestion Therapy: Useful for simpler problems like boosting confidence, requiring one or two sessions.
  2. Analytical Therapy: Uncovers causes of psychological issues, often achieving lasting release within 8 to 12 sessions. Much less than a conventional 1000-hour analysis, which incidentally, is not very successful

Example: Client - John

  • Background: Confidence for interviews.
  • Technique Used: Relaxation and positive suggestion.
  • Resolution: John felt more confident and looked forward to his next interview.

Example: Client - David

  • Background: Lack of confidence talking to the opposite sex.
  • Technique Used: Hypnoanalysis and additional techniques outlined above.
  • Resolution: By revisiting and reinterpreting past experiences, David felt more confident and happier in the company of the opposite sex.
